Is this a true story?
Is this a true story or based on a true events? Did these people really exist?

It isn't the story of one particular man, but it is the story of the men who went to "Tigerland" and other training stations like it on their way to Viet Nam. There is a lot about the story that is common to all soldiers facing combat.
BTW, there are some wonderful little background "goofs" that Schumacher (who remembers the 70s) should have caught: exotic dancers rarely had plastic tits in the 70s, but most of the dancers in the club Bozz and Jim go to have augmented breasts. In the 70s, girls did not shave their pubic hair down to a little g-string, but the two girls Bozz and Jim take to the hotel have shaved pubes.
Think of it as a good recreation of an era and a good telling of the stories of several men about to face the dangers of war.

Ok I worked on the movie and I can tell you that it is based on real story, but almost every thing has been changed. But yes it is a true story. And yes Joel Schumacher is a big hack and a bi of an A-hole. But yeah it was true and took place at Fort Polk LA., but was filmed at Camp Blanding Florida which is where GI Jane was also filmed, just FYI.
Later
My father fought in Vietnam and trained at Tiger Land. He said that it was extremely accurate, training wise, but he said that he never met anyone that was like Bozz or Wilson. But he did say there were people that acted out, but not to that extreme.
