The Southern Thing

I just saw this movie and really like it but I am still disgusted by the way that "Southerners" are portrayed in film: Always the dumb boys. I want to just once see a movie where the boy from Alabama or Georgia is "the smart one" as he helps some poor, dumb boys from New York or Illinois with their problems.

Great movie, though.

last I checked, Farrell's character was from Texas...

If you watch "Jarhead", Lucas Black's character is one of the few who uses common sense and raises questions about what's right and wrong.

Besides, if the character of Wilson had been from the North, somebody would've said, "Why does the Yankee always have to be a snob and get his ass kicked?"

Props to Farrell for pulling off the accent.

reply

Yeah, I agree. Farrell's accent was great.

reply

Agreed. I think that we see good and bad characters from all over in this film. The original poster is being a bit sensitive. Wilson's *beep* buddy seems, in accent, northern, or, at least midwest...

I just saw this movie and Farrells accent was not great...lol. His performance was great but his southern accent was non-existent.
