If Jane moved to NYC with Ricky Fitts then Carolyn would've ended up completely alone in that house. No husband, no kid. And all from one moment to the next! Talk about a shocking and sudden life change. I don't think that would've ended well for Carolyn. I guess she ended up being a victim after all.

As the events unfolded, if Jane leaves with Ricky - the next day Carolyn would have been all by herself.
However, she still had "The prince of real estate". I forgot his name, the actor was Peter Gallagher.
The PRince was going thru a divorce. I would think at some point he'd move in with Carolyn.
I think, actually, as time went on, shed have been fine. Probably ending up going into business with The Prince.
Just my take......
Carolyn can go run into the available arms of that "dorky prince of real estate asshole."
But Jane? She is recorded hiring her boyfriend to murder her father for $3000.
When the police enter into the picture and discover Ricky and Jane missing an investigation will ensue that will track them to New York.
There, they will then be discovered with connecctions to drug dealers for survival. Double whammy.
