I actually think this is a really good film, mainly because Spacey’s character journey and performance is fantastic, and the performances across the board are also great.

But… I can’t help laughing at how this is middle class whites flagellating themselves for pleasure and then showering themselves in Oscars for doing such a good job.

The most hilarious aspect of pure Progressive Porn is Colonel Fitts - a tough Southern retired colonel who hates gays and batters his son… turns out to be a closet homosexual 🤣🤣 It’s as crude as watching a Neo-Nazi drawing a Jew with a big nose and grubbing hands, drooling as he sketches.

Meanwhile, of course, the two gay guys have a perfect, healthy relationship, with big beaming smiles - no dysfunction in that household 🤣

The wife of the colonel is basically a zombie-ghost because she’s not getting any - that was a bit over-cooked despite an undeniably good performance. Come on, countless Muslim women have to walk around in black bags, have zero rights and get routinely battered by their husbands who plough women/dudes/kids on the side - they’re not permanently walking around in a near catatonic state.

Janey was such an awful daughter you have to wonder if the film is actively trying to discourage having a family. She was a relentless dragon who treated her dad like dogshit. She deserved the slap she got from her (dysfunctional cheating bitch) mom, but I’d like to have seen Spacey put that ungrateful brat in her place.

Ah well, at least Birch and Suvari got their cans out and we got to see Spacey go from hilarious loser to no-shits-given alpha dog. It’s a unique mix of drama, comedy and thriller, and it actually comments on life and dares to push boundaries (a dad nearly screws his teen daughter’s best friend??) For all its crude Progressive Porn it’s infinitely better than anything Hollywood churns out today.
