Do any of the students ever amount to anything?

Every time I watch this show the auditorium is filled with students wanting to be actors/directors/writers, etc...I was just curious if anyone famous in the business ever studied there? I always feel that the actor being interviewed is thinking to themselves that all these people are wasting their lives on something that is never going to happen for them.

Bradley Cooper was a student about 10 yrs. ago
I saw him in one of the ep. He asked a question.

I dont any other institution has instructed so many celebrrated actors as The Actors Studio. The LIst includes Jack Nicolson, Paul Newman, Marlon Brando, Jane Fonda, Al Pacino, Rovert DeNiro, Rod Steiger, Ann Bancroft, Sissy Spacek, Kim Stanley, Cary Elwes, Laura Dern, Sean Penn, Anthony Perkins, Gene Hackman and on and on.

And thats only the big name movie stars. Many, many others went on to careers primarily on the stage, or in academics.

Any one who goes into theatre knows that the odds are against him. The students on the show maay or may not become successful, recognizable star actors or directors. But I dont think any of them feel their time is wasted.

It is not our abilities that show who we truly are...it is our choices

Also, the people in attendance in the audience, are not solely actors in front of the camera, but other film-making people behind the camera.

de Niro studied the technique of stella adler not stanislavski which they teach at the actors studio. Sean penn never went to the actors studio, jack nicholson didnt either. You seem to think that all guests on the program are old students which they are not.

Actually, knish, both Adler and Lee Strasberg, founder of The Actor's Studio, followed the philosophy of Stanislavsky, but differed over, I believe, the concept of 'sense memory'; otherwise the training is pretty much the same. Most of the actors that hachmom mentioned DID attend the Actors Studio, so I think you're wasting your time quibbling over it. The point is its EXTREMELY difficult to make a living as any artist, never mind an actor, and just because an actor isn't famous doesn't mean they aren't talented, and that they didn't learn anything from their training, wherever it originated.

You can spot Bradley Cooper in the Clint Eastwood episode. If you would have told him then what he was going to do with Eastwood in 2015....could he have believed it?

I would think, since this is a reputable school, you would have more of a chance than just waiting for it to happen. Then again, it seems like acting is just luck of the draw and sometimes something you are born into. Jennifer Lawrence was known to not have any acting experience at all. I sure would not be paying large amounts of money for classes, unless I was getting booked on something to make money to invest in that area.

For instance, I am an aspiring actor and I am working currently with an extras casting director. He charges $45 per acting workshop as he calls it. Someone coming into the industry would think it was a scam, but it lowers the blow when he is able to book me for extra opportunities that pay anywhere from $25 a day (very low) to $250 a day (which is pretty lucrative). Nothing is ever a waste of time if you can manage to make a profit off of what you put into it.

Back in the 70s and 80s, the industry was HURTING for new faces and most of the people who knew this was a legitimate acting institution, probably had better chances of getting into acting. Now that everyone knows acting is a pretty decent career to pursue, it is extremely difficult.

Better watch out, better start crying. Better hurry up, run and hide. Krampus is coming to town! >:)
