Least Favorite Episode?

I love Arthur a lot, but the show is made from humans, and like humans they make mistakes. What episode did you enjoy the least?

There are 2 episodes that REALLY annoy me.

The 2nd worst episode for me is the one where Buster terms into a germophobic. I just wanted to punch Buster in the face when he was being all gross around people. What's worse, is at the end the friends decide that "hey, it's okay to spread germs all over the place to us, go ahead and do it, Buster!" Oh yeah, 'cause you can be whatever you want even if your actions are disturbing other people's business. Why not go ahead and tell me that it's alright to be a bully 'cause you can "be whatever you want". I wonder if the message would have stayed the same even if Buster spreaded the Ebola virus to the whole school.

The #1 worst episode for me, is that one about D.W learning about Africa. That song they sang felt like something from the Political Airing Requirements show. It was so uncreative, boring and the song went on for WAY too long. The song they sang just kept going on and on and on.

The show has run for close to 200 episodes, so it's hard for me to choose a least favorite.

But I'd say "Arthur's Big Hit", mostly for the stupid, hypocritical way that Arthur learns his lesson Arthur learns it's bad to hit people... after Binky hits him. Then they had to tack on a tired moral about peer pressure at the end.

Also "For Whom The Bell Tolls", where D.W. gets sick and loses her voice, is pretty low on my list, mostly because Francine was an annoying hypocrite in it.

Ditto for any episode where Pal and Kate talk.

reply

Any episode where Pal and Kate talk......They are awful

reply

[deleted]

Wow...I agree with all of those. They were all terrible.

The newer ones are bad too Like Buster and Arthur not being best friends because Buster figures out Bionic Bunny is crap.

reply

By far, my least favorite episode is "D.W. Unties the Knot".

Zebras like horses are quadrupeds. That is to say they have four rupeds, one on each corner, upon which they walk.

reply

DW Unties The Knot....I'm not familiar with that one. Don't think I've seen it.

I wanted to add I finally saw the Africa episode the other day. I know there's been alot of chatter about it on this board, but until the other day I'd never seen it. I have kind of agree that the episode was a little cringe worthy. Don't get me wrong. The song was kind of cute and even a little catchy. But it was also ridiculous. It was so sanitized and it reeked of political correctness.

reply

Arthur's Big Hit-That episode made me want to throw something at the screen

reply

it reeked of political correctness.

How so?

reply

In My Africa.

Was that song supposed to teach anyone anything at all? I think it is about 9 minutes long and unless you were really trying you could not remember all of it.

It was way too preachy and made it look like everywhere in Africa is wonderful. ( The Congo anybody?)

"So, you wrote a bad play and were molested, welcome to the theatre."

reply

In regards to my "political correctness" statement about the Africa song....It just had this whole 'Public Service Announcement' vibe. It portrayed Africa as this gleaming paradise full of chocolate fields and exotic animals. And while it is those things, it's also full of violence, poverty, and war. I realize these things obviously aren't appropriate for a show aimed at 10 year olds, but still. It was just super sanitized.

And I totally agree with you St8str. The song was just too long and wordy. I certainly think it's possible a kid might pick up one or two of the factoids. But you'd have to really be paying attention to pick up everything in the song.

Arthur's Big Hit-My reason was already stated by other people.
Buster Gets Real-Buster's entitled to his own opinion.
All the Pal/Kae episodes after the "Killer" one

Ah, finally I have a good claw! 3 human females, a number, and a king giving himself brain surgery!

reply

The Germaphobic Buster one would have been alright if the moral was "Sometimes you have to point out a friends flaws, but you should do it with gentleness and respect" but instead it was "It's OK if your friends like to eat out of garbage cans."

The "Sock Market" thing confuses me to this day, and I'm 20 years old. If I were 8, I would have either fallen asleep or changed the channel.

In my Africa was just a failed attempt at goofy political correctness.

I have not seen every episode, but

In My Africa song is extremely annoying.

I also didn't like Arthur hitting D.W. episode.

Haha i'm 20 too and just recently watched the episode with my boyfriend. I was confused and bored as hell during that episode. Didn't really get what was behind the whole "sock market"(why bother even making that episode? it was such a waste and a bore). I even tried asking my boyfriend to explain it to me but he was also pretty confused too and almost fell asleep. I was tempted to skip the episode but decided drag through it. I get that it has to do with charity/stock market/world trading of some sort, but it was still confusing, stupid, and a really boring and unfunny episode (it was obvious that they were trying to make it amusing but it failed big time). Plus Pal and Kate (think that's the name of the baby?) are not amusing and it's odd hearing them talk. It works in rugrats (except Tommy's dog doesn't talk), but it just doesn't work for the show Arthur (atleast not for this episode).

"Arthur's Big Hit." Not because Arthur hit D.W., but everyone's reaction to it, and the stupid hypocritical message at the end. Plus it was written by Joe Fallon who, while making a lot of good episodes during his time, also wrote eps where D.W. or Francine would always win in the end (see my post in the "Least Favorite Character" thread).

As bad as "In My Africa" was, I don't know why everybody likes to brush it off as politically correct, because it sure wasn't political OR correct. I guess "politically correct" is another one of those words/phrases that used to mean something, but now is mainly used as a label for anything conservatives don't like.

Um, I'd suggest actually researching what "politically correct" means. Being politically correct basically means a depiction or message that is under political censorship.

I know the (original) meaning of politically correct. I'm just saying that it's one of those phrases that once had a clear-cut definition, but became watered down from people using it to label anything they don't like or agree with.

What of "In My Africa" is under political censorship?

reply

By censorship, I meant that the episode felt like the writers were under requirement to give shallow educational ideas of another continent, not allowing any room for the writer's to be creative. As for it being politically correct, it was actually the other responses who claimed this. Read their posts, which seem to explain it pretty well.

Wouldn't Yehweh and Yeshua want you to learn about other people's cultures? It seems hypocritical for you to complain. "I love God but I don't care for his creations."

LOL I wouldn't mind learning about Africa if it was alteast presented in an interesting way. It's a big world God made, and if I'm not interested in learning ALL of it, there's nothing wrong with that. I'll stick to reading about Cherokee, spending Summer with French exchange students and occasionally learning about China when I talk to those who know about it.

If I wanted to learn about Africa, I'd go to Google or the library. When I watch Arthur, I want good characters, imagination and entertainment.

I hate episodes that have vomiting in them like the vomitrocious , the picky eater one, the one when Pal and Kate vomit on arthur and his cereal and the dw's Imaginary friend one when Arthur and Buster go on the ride and make themselves sick. Vomit humor is not funny and is unneeded.

I don't get the hate for In My Africa. I thought that it was fun and educational. It had a few good jokes, like D.W.'s warped image of Africa influenced by the media.

reply

Same here about the Africa episode. It actually wasn't even on my radar, but the episodes I def consider my least favorites are any Kate/Pal episodes as someone else mentioned before (and I do mean ANY of them) and ones where Francine is a jerk, "learns" something, and all of a sudden she's forgiven because she "learned" something.

The episode that comes to mind (I don't remember the name) but when she wrecks George's domino set up, then tries to make it up to him by giving him her soccer ball...which he doesn't even accept, but now she's an awesome person. Bleh.

Binky and the tough customers are better people than Francine.

reply

The sock market episode was boring as hell (the one with D.W's missing sock, and Pal and the baby talking).

The episode with Binky and Brain waiting for their moms after their soccer practice was boring too (i found it stupid, and blame the writers for bad writing when they made Binky apologies for breaking Brain's watch, when it was Brain that ran into Binky and breaking his own watch).

Plus there's more lame/annoying episodes, but i have to think about it.

I'm sorry, but "Waiting to Go" was one of the best golden age episodes. Everything about it was flawless. I can't tell you how hysterical I found this.

I really hate "Arthur's Big Hit," or the execution of it anyway. I actually have a cartoon and we "covered" that episode a few months ago on FanFiction.

Waiting To Go had some humor but was otherwise a chore to sit through

I don't know, I thought this episode was excellent.

-All three dream sequences.
-"You're really weird."
-"The cranberries are right!"
-"She works in an ice cream parlor and all she packs are carrots?"
-"My mom packed them back when she still loved me."
-"I don't see an amoeba, I see a swab!" "OK, OK, it's a stickless swab!"
-"COME BACK HERE, YOU MISERABLE CUR!"

All in all, I think this makes for a pretty entertaining 11 minutes.

I abhor the weight loss episode. Its horrible. Painting a character who's been shown to be healthy, and active, as overweight can truly mess with kids body image. Not to mention it was so dull, and predictable. There was nothing even remotely funny. It was just terrible. In My Africa was rough. Though most of the episodes past 2010 are all poor in quality, with a few exceptions. I hated the one where they go to New York too. I thought Crown City was supposed to be Manhattan. But apparently it's not because New York exists too. The show was more about showing diversity in New York than about the characters, DW saved that episode for me. The Ballad of Buster Baxter used to bug me to no end when I was a kid, though that may have come from my nanny growing up, who hated folk music She would always complain about that episode when it was on. I need to watch it again before I make my final judgement.

The Pal and Katie episodes are boring. I feel the writers are trying to model that off of Stewie and Brian from "Family Guy." I can't stand some episodes that center on them as well.
