Hypocrisy of the Gallows
I find it ironic beyond belief the state's insistence on killing someone who murdered someone else, yet they show compassion even at the prisoner's last moments even though they HAVE to go through with it.
This movie's example: Bjork's character collapses on the trapdoor and the female guard asks her "are you alright?" NO, SHE'S FUCKING NOT, YOU'RE ABOUT TO BREAK HER FUCKING NECK!!
Then they impose the ultimate indignity on her by strapping her to a board on the gallows (something I've never seen before) and she doesn't want the hood over her head and the fucking execution supervisor says it's against regulations! YOU'RE ABOUT TO KILL A CONDEMNED PRISONER, WHY NOT GIVE THEM THAT REQUEST FOR NO HOOD!?!
Honestly, condemned prisoners have to be treated with more dignity on their way out of this world, the guards can at least afford them that!
