This is a terrible movie. As bad as "Can't Stop the Music."
I understand that people want to be cool and say they "love Bjork" because she is so cutting edge, but the truth is she's quirky, not talented.
The movie itself has a plot based on everybody being ignorant of her blindness and allowing her to work in a factory. Really?
It looks like it was filmed using an old Sony video camera and the acting and dialogue is terrible. It seems like they just filmed the first day of rehearsals.
And to make it worse, just when it gets really bad, Bjork breaks into one of her songs that sounds like the ramblings of a six-year-old. And THEN to take it to a whole new level of bad, people start dancing on trains and in factories.

This movie should be used to torture people or to induce vomiting in poisoning victims.

Somebody owes me 140 minutes of my life back.

I thought it was awful too.

You shouldn't start posts with insults and/or Ad Hominem, it disqualifies your opinion.

Movies are subjective experiences, NOT objective. People will have different opinions, and if you can't intelligently defend yours, maybe message boards aren't your thing.

Ad hominem is not just insulting someone, contrary to popular belief. It is insulting someone, yet ignoring their argument. He did both, he gave reasons why he was wrong.

Something you are missing: taste.
Your opinion is arrogant and completely naive to other cultures and genres of movies. Stick to things that you can actually understand. The movie wasn't one of those big blockbusters that was shoved in your face so I don't know why you are acting like a victim. To me you are pathetic and stupid.

While I agree that this movie is horrible in many ways, I have to disagree with your opinion about the acting, it's objectively good, but I too hated the style of it. Bjork is extremely talented. While I don't really enjoy her music, I find her voice one of a kind, with an amazing range.
I had to analyse this in an school assignment, got a B by mainly going on and on about how *beep* this movie was, and why.

I watched this film for the first time today. It moved me a great deal. I have listened to some of Bjork's albums, and enjoyed them, but her performance in Dancer in the Dark was simply brilliant.

I will admit to shedding some (manly) tears throughout its duration, without a hint of embarrassment. I haven't seen much of Von Trier's works so I should really seek some more out. He's done a top job with this particular film.

...is the problem you're allergic to a well familiar name?
