Mia was supposed to be bangin. Lol, Monica just ain't got it. For the sake of looks, Nia or Sanaa should have gotten that role. When Monica's comes down the staircase it's a WTF moment for me.

shareThe thing is Mia is NOT supposed to be "bangin" (as you put it). She's supposed to be innocent and angelic so her cheating and that whole cheating scene would be surprising and also so Lance could be completely naive about what she was capable of. Remeber he was looking for a 'virtuous' woman despite the fact that he did all that whoring all his life.

She's an actress. Actresses play different roles. I agree that I have seen The Player's Club and can't shake that character to appreciate the character she plays in this movie, but maybe that just means she was really good at her role in TPC. For those that never saw TPC or saw it after The Best Man I'm sure their perspective of her in this movie is much different than ours. I don"t think the casting director dropped anything and hired someone that could play the part and played it well.

Unsure if perhaps OP just personally didn't find the actress appealling but she did represent that girl next door (pure breed) look which to me worked in the actress favor since she was always just put into movies as the bestfriend or general character amoungst others.
While Nia Long was known as the main actress for this movie Monica was given the presentation of being the main character (i.e. bride to be).
Personally wonder if people didn't accept her playing this type of character due to her representation in another movie 'Players Club'. If I'm wrong then state so or at least give reasonable explanation to why you feel Monica shouldn't have played Mia.

Morris Chestnut(Lance)- girls screamed like crazy, again
Nia Long(Jordan) - men howled and rooted like crazy

I think that just proves that the casting director did a good job with picking Monica. In real life most guys will over look the "girl next door". Even though she is pretty, she isn't instantly recognized as sexy. It isn't until they get to know her and realize they have a lot in common with her, she's not about the drama and he can bring her home to his mom that he see's just how beautiful she is. Mia's character wasn't meant to be sexy, she was meant to be classy.
shareShe's not supposed to be a sex pot. She's supposed to be the good girl, the girl next door, the virginal girl. I think Monica played that part well. I laugh when I watch it because TBM and TPC are two of my favorite films and Monica plays the polar opposite of Mia in TPC. MC is a good actress.

Angel/angelic is the operative word here. She has a pretty, angelic, good girl next door look which is opposite of the sexiness that some people are disappointed that she doesn't have.
