Can we have a sequel NOW?

Seriously, this needs to be revisited.

reply

I hope so. Hell, they should do two of them.

They stopped with 1984 and jumped to 1997. They need to go back and cover the Windows 95/Monopoly trials with Microsoft and Jobs' role in building Pixar and Next Step. Then they need to pick up after 97 and focus on Jobs' rebranding of the Apple brand and surge of the portable age, and Microsoft's dependence on the Xbox brand.

I think people would be more excited about seeing how Jobs came back, eclipsed Gates once and for all (turns out having better stuff DOES matter, after all), and then tragically died at the peak of his success.

But if they could do a four hour miniseries, that stuff should all be in there.

reply

You can hardly say that Jobs eclipsed Gates since Microsoft rules the computer world still. Sure we all use iProducts, but 90% of us are booting up our iTunes from a Windows driven PC. Steve knew how to build a company though and get people excited about its products.

Gates stepped down before Apple overtook Microsoft. So Jobs never could beat Gates. He beat Ballmer, but that's not saying much. Microsoft still rules the desktop market, but that tells you how stagnant that market is since Apple only has a tiny share of it and they are still the biggest tech company in the world.

The entire time that I was watching PoSV tonight I was thinking about how much I'd like to see a sequel. It'd be awesome if they could get the entire cast and crew back for another one.

Just saw the movie for the first time... loved the almost prophetic scene between bill and steve over who stole the xerox gui first. And after it all ended I felt that there's still so much more story to tell. Wouldn't mind it if they got the cast back for another either.

We need to see the decline of Microsoft's monopoly, the rise of apple's dominance over portable devices. How the two companies have exploited the growing world of online interactivity, and of course gamining. The dichotomy between the two companies really... how microsoft is for stiff conservatives and apple's for more liberal people, and of course steve jobs declining health and death, none of which is touched on in the movie, though he does seem a little sick at times.

Bring on another goddamit.

reply

The film does encapsulate pretty well how ephemeral and temporary success in this business can be. By the time they actually get another one made, who knows what would be happening--will Apple remain dominant? Will a new challenger arise?

That final image of Jobs smiling quietly to himself, while Gates (finally letting his success lull him into a false sense of security) looms over him--prophetic. Intentionally or not.

how microsoft is for stiff conservatives and apple's for more liberal people

That's the most asinine thing I have heard in a while.

reply

Seriously, what an idiot. Fanboys, you gotta tolerate them; because if you don't, who will?

Yes there are a lot of things to cover:

1. Next
2. Pixar
3. Other companies/businesses Microsoft kinda touched into like PS3, Nintendo because of the Xbox
4. Apple vs. Creative Labs, Nokia, Samsung etc
5. Steve's Health
6. Gates transition to Philanthropy work

etc

Microsoft doesn't build personal computers. They are a software company, whereas Apple does both.

reply

Sorry, you don't get it.

Being dominant in personal computers means a lot less when personal computers are no longer the dominant means of accessing the internet.

Nobody's saying Microsoft is over. But Apple, at least for the moment, is the dominant company.

reply

I sure hope they do a sequal with the same great cast that would be so awesome for them to cover some areas after the first movie, someone should consider doing a Facebook page for that for a petition.

reply

I would love to see a sequel myself.

But the movie is pretty good as is. I'm not sure if a sequel could live up to the expectations of the fans of the original.

reply

I'll do it. I'll direct the sequel. Pirates of Silicon Valley: Jobs Strikes Back!
