Needs a sequel?

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like this movie is a bit outdated, or maybe needs a sequel. At the end of this movie the movie seems to suggest that Bill Gates has "won", and when this movie was made that would be the case. But now, with Steve Jobs back and the creation of many new paradigm changing devices, on top of Bill Gates taking a back seat to his company, it seems like Steve Jobs has moved out on top. Bill Gates represents all that is evil for many people while Steve Jobs is some sort of messiah. What do you guys think?

Gates is still far far far (ad nauseum) and away richer than Jobs. So...

reply

Bill Gates may be richer, but Steve Jobs is behind more cultural icons? iPod, iTunes, Pixar, Apple, etc., the only guy to fight Gates and still get back up for more, not viewed univserally as the anti-christ (No matter how much Gates gives to charity, he still has this anti-christ shadow over his shoulder :p). It's not just about the money.

Oh well.

Forget those old fogies Steve & Bill. Bill may still own the world, but those GOOGLE boys are movin' up fast!

That was actually quite funny.

A sequel would actually be quite interesting.

I agree. Microsoft tends to invent things that people need while Apple make things like what you mentioned. Apple is pretty much a good design and looks nice. Thats about it.

Is there anything you like? ;)

A sequel would be good. MS has been struggling to keep up with Apple lately. Zune is leagues behind iPod, Windows Mobile is leagues behind iPhone, Vista is leagues behind Leopard. And everyone is noticing it. Sure, MS is still the biggest company. But that's because Windows is still the stock OS on every PC excepts macs. But if Apple one day makes OSX available on any PC, you watch the numbers change. Apple could be way bigger than MS is they did that. The iPod is already bigger than Zune. iPhone is bigger than Windows Mobile. And if Apple makes OSX available on all PCs, that's the final nail in the coffin for MS.

Both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs have gone a long way and their companies, Microsoft and Apple, have made several contributions to the computer industry since the TV movie was made in 1999.

Not every PC anymore. Although Windows is still in the lead, a Free alternative is now viable: many makers sell PCs with Linux. Also, many portables come with Google's Linux-derived systems, Android or Chrome OS.

I would include Linus Torvald in the sequel

I know my reply is several years late, but I agree in part. The story keeps going on, and many movies could be made about the computer industry. Now, Steve Jobs has stepped down from Apple, and Google and Linux are more and more in the forefront as challengers to Apple and Microsoft. These are interesting times.

In light of Jobs' death, I think a sequel would be ideal. Though it would have to include all the things Jobs did with phones, music, film etc. to show how much of a comeback he made. It would also have to include the new kids on the block in Google, and even how their Android OS has become Apple's only worthy opponent in the smartphone/tablet wars.

I agree that Jobs' death and Google would be significant things to include in a sequel. I also wonder if a sequel should include something about Linux as a background threat to both Microsoft and Apple, and that Google decided to use Linux to their benefit by basing Android on it.

The first movie focused on Apple and Microsoft, and there were other significant companies and products from the late 70s and 80s they left out (companies such as Commodore and Atari, and products such as IBM's OS/2). I imagine including all of that stuff would have made the first movie harder to follow, so I wonder what effect it would have to include Linux in a sequel.
