Still relevant, no update needed.
Firstly, the movie is primarily about how two small start-ups managed to take the market from the giants of their era, largely because of the giants lack of vision. That's why it's called "Pirates of Silicon Valley", pirates, raiders ... plural. Two of them. That and how they lead to the home PC market. It's NOT an Apple Vs. MicroSoft film, but that seems to be a very common projection.
A friend and I were talking about this, about how Gates and Jobs worked over IBM and Xerox, particularly Gates' quote about "successful people think they can't lose", and how the major players couldn't see the future (they thought all the money was in hardware, and that the software didn't really matter) and the business market (practically laughing at Woz when he showed them his home PC prototype).
25 years later, Gates leaves, and MicroSoft is now the IBM of the early 1980's. They are successful, and think they can't lose ... just like IBM and Xerox did. They think the product that has been most profitable will continue to be the most profitable ... just like IBM and Xerox did. They missed the boat on the phones and tablets, with Apple and Google stepping in ... just like Apple and MicroSoft did in the 1980's.
Really, nothing has changed at all. The big players can still get blindsided, and being first is still of primary importance.
Also, keep in mind this isn't the first time Apple has been in the lead. What happens between them and Android remains to be seen, and if there is a sequel to be made, that is it. How they both managed to get into a market that MicroSoft completely missed.
