I wish I saw this in theaters!

I wish I was able to watch this when it came out in the movies. Unfortunately at the time I was only 4 years old so obviously that didn't happen. Since this movie was an instant classic, I always knew he was dead all along because even in elementary school kids talked about it because of their parents. Albeit I always saw parts of it as a child, I never saw it from beginning to end until I was like 13 or 14. My point is this is one of the movies I always yearn to have been able to watch it's opening weekend and be just as dumbfounded as everyone else (not as a 4 year old of course, you know what I mean). My question is what was it like for those of you who saw it in theaters when it first came out? Do you remember how it felt when the ring fell and the music started? Did you ever watch it again in disbelief that he was really dead and witness everyone else's reactions? I always ask my parents what it was like and love to listen to their experiences.

It was a fantastic experience to see it in the theater. I remember that the moment the ring dropped (before the whole music started), something just clicked and I gasped, putting my hand to my mouth. My sister, who was sitting next to me, asked what was going on, but then immediately realized it too. She was almost gasping for air, that's how shocked she was! Our friend had already been told what the twist was and she was very much amused by our reactions. I was so enthusiastic about the movie, I told my mother all about it when I got home, something I still regret because after seeing the movie as well she really wished she hadn't known.

Wow that is a wonderful story thank you so much for telling me! That's awesome! I'm sorry you regret that but it's completely understandable. I know what you mean, sometimes something makes you so excited you just want to talk about it to everyone. My dad always tells me when I ask about his experience that it's the only film he never figured out the twist of. Both my mom and dad said that even when the ring fell they didn't understand it. That they didn't know until the music started and the iconic "I see dead people" was repeated. Personally, I get goosebumps every single time I watch that scene no matter what.

Amazing scene, takes me back every time! Every now and then my sister and I still discuss the impact it had on us. Only the ending of The Usual Suspects does the same thing for me. That was also a shocker.

Wow that's exactly what we do! Unusual Suspects was great as well, unfortunately I was aware of that twist too :(

Ah, that's really a shame. I didn't even know that movie had a twist when I first saw it, so it was a double shocker for me.

One of the best moments in film in all of history...

I was so intrigued that I went to see the movie again the very next day, and couldn't wait for that scene. As soon as it came on the second time around, my heart started racing out of anticipation. Such a great payoff.

I also remember feeling a sense of knowing something pivotal was about to happen that the rest of the audience wasn't aware of since it was the first time they were seeing it, and I could hear all the gasps and whisperings around me.
