Frodo and Sam.
I don't care what anybody says. As far as I'm concerned Sam is the hero in this story!

shareI was thinking same when i watched the last hour and a half of the rotk last night.
Frodo was just blundering around like a drunk , and Sam had to look after him as well as himself, protect them from constant betrayals by Gollum, and get them to the mountain , which he did carrying Frodo!
I agree!
He had no reason to get involved, no destiny or inheritance, he just came along out of love and loyalty, and kept going because there was nobody else to do what needed to be done. It just goes to show, being a real hero isn't glamorous and doesn't usually involve a lot of gratitude, it's just doing what needs to be done because someone has to.
It's true in the books, too! Sam is a hell of a good mate. He's the kind of friend that will help you move . . . a body.
shareTolkien agreed with you.
sharewell I think everyone would agree even Tolkien who wrote character of Sam like that, Frodo would not make even a small part of that journey without Sam, he was his strength and rock and kept him going.. Sam is real hero and best friend in the world!!! but there isn't just one hero, there are many heroes in this story...
shareAnd don't forget that Sam and Bilbo are the only people to have used the ring who were able to give it up willingly. And Bilbo needed some help from Gandalf.
shareTotally! Frodo was a whiny, coward, pretty much the whole time. If he encountered violence, he cowered and accepted death. He would have died multiple times if someone else hadn't saved his bacon. Sam was a savage! True and selfless, to the end. He and Aragorn were the heroes of the story.
