Devious Dreams

So John Thorne (of Wrapped in Plastic fame) has a new book out entitled "Devious Dreams" that I just picked up yesterday.

Thorne travels piecemeal through the film, explaining each scene and the behind-the-stage moments that led to Lynch inserting new footage, deleting old footage (i.e., from the pilot) and rearranging footage from the pilot when this film transformed into a major studio release as opposed to the originally intended TV series.

As a huge fan of this film I found it a good read. He also answered a lingering question I had about one moment in the film: When Betty and Rita are in the diner and Rita suddenly remembers something -- the scene abruptly cuts to the two of them back at Aunt Ruth's place where Rita shares her thought.

I always wondered, "why did she wait to do that?" It seems like an awkward (though momentary) transition.

Well, now I have the answer.

Like I said, it's a fun read.
