farnsworth was robbed of an oscar!!!!

No, he wasn't... Richard Farnsworth did fine in his role, but Kevin Spacey's performance in "American Beauty" was excellent.

i love both films and performances, but i agree with the op - farnsworth would be my pick also

Agreed. American Beauty aged horribly IMO, and so did Spacey's performance. Farnsworth gave quite possibly the best male leading performance of the 90's.

Yes, he was, and I think he knew it as well as most of the public. The depth of that role, the subtleties required to pull it off in such a quiet, thoughtful, and physically expressive way- resulting in the absolute believability of his character earned him an Oscar, but sadly, the votes did not.

Agreed, I never understood the fascination with Spacey in American Beauty. Farnsworth far and away gave a better performance

Spacey is a waste of time, Farnsworth is a hollywood icon and this performance should've earned at least an honorary oscar.
