the films pacing.

It all makes sense when the end credits role. I read alot of complaints about the film being slow, but that is the beauty of the movie, the premise of the story is an old man on a tractor stubbornly driving 300 miles in (approx) 2 months. How the hell else is it supposed to be edited?

The pacing works for this film, the editing is great and years from now people will still watch and talk about this film.

In the age were Transformers and Matrix style films rule the box office, I'm glad I can watch A Straight Story and appreciate it on many levels, regardless of the "pacing".

The problem is not that it's slow; it's that nothing happens. He just rides and talks with someone to tell them something he read in a fortune cookie, and then he rides some more. I understand why many like this film, but IMO, this is pretty much the antitheses of a film for me: just images and no story.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I guess the story of an old guy lawn-tractoring his way to a final rendezvous with his ailing brother sounds remarkable from a high point of view, but when you get down to the specifics, it's pretty mundane. Making a movie about this was a half-step removed from making a movie about corn growing.

I think this is a first for me on imdb... we disagree about how good the movie is, but we're being respectful to one another. Thanks dude.

I guess the board for The Straight Story is too slow for trolls :-)

I love this film too, the pacing is just right and for me personally it doesn't feel as if it's about nothing.

I take it that you're too much of a pussy to cry.

It moved as fast as the tractor. I like that.

The pacing was fine for me too. The pople that think this movie's slow unfortunately are infected with the hollywood virus.

A random guy once told me he judges the quality of the movies he watch by "how many explosions it had" - That certainly tells you something about a "certain group of people".
