Two complaints, The female hitchhiker and the mower deck

How in the world can a young female as cute as the girl in this movie not get a ride hitchhiking? I found that totally unrealistic. If it been a young male, I could believe it. But a cutie like her? Horn dogs would be trying to help her quite quickly.

When the brothers are working on the mower they pull the mowing deck off as the finishing touch to their repairs. They would have removed it when they started working to get to the belts and transmission. He had been riding the whole movie, I believe, with it in place. Tonight was the first time I watched this movie, I'll look more closely next time. Maybe he mowed a nice little clear spot when he made camp.(sarc)

I didn't get the feeling she'd been hitchhiking all that long for starters. On a sparsely traveled road it could take awhile to get picked up. Add to that while folks probably share a general affability to helping people in that neck of the woods, to the point where you'd think any passerby would stop and give her a ride, there will always be a subset of the population that would never pick up a hitchhiker. Remember what the one character says about there being all kinds of strange people "out there" later in the film? That same character would no doubt have that thought first and foremost in her mind if she were to see someone thumbing a ride.
