Harry Dean Stanton
Not a single post on here about Dean, well now there is. What a wonderful actor and a great pairing with Dick Farnsworth.

no other actor could have stood there and done nothing anywhere near as well as Harry Dean Stanton. what an amazing performance!
They'll hang you as sure as 10 dimes will buy a dollar
I was wondering who the hell they were going to find to fill that role. When you think about it, Harry Dean Stanton really was the only choice. They were lucky to get him.
shareAlso, the fact that Harry's name was not billed at the beginning of the film held that one vital clue back as to whether Dick's character would be in time. It was a wonderful moment.
sharehe's brilliant in a 2-minute performance, just amazing!

A nice understated cameo by Mr Stanton.
It's that man again!!
I've got nothing against Stanton, or his performance which was really good.
... but I was a little disappointed by the fact that he looked 15 years younger than his "brother", when in real life Alvin was the youngest of the two.
Kind of agree. Stanton seemed quite a bit younger (especially after seeing him absolutely ancient in Twin Peaks S3, 20 years later). Also, Alvin wasn’t that old at 73, even factoring in earlier life expectancy back then, and was played by Farnsworth who was in his 80’s at the time. I’d almost prefer it if they’d made the character an 80-year old to match, or never mention their ages and let the eyes do the work.
All that said, it’s a perfect film and one of Lynch’s best. If anyone says Lynch is pretentious nonsense I show them this film and they realise he’s perfectly capable of telling a linear story on par with the best filmmakers out there, then they realise his more abstract work is entirely deliberate and equally well constructed.
