director's commentary on region 1 dvd

Just wondering if anyone has listened to the director's commentary on the region 1 dvd? Is it supposed to fade in and out, overlap, repeat itself and sound as if there is an echo? I was wondering if it might either be a fault or purposely done to reflect the actual style of the movie?

my region 2 dvd also has it.

to me it sounds like something has gone wrong.

I retract my earlier statement! :P

their supposed to be that way and they are done that way for effect.

reply

Frankly, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it is done for effect. Heck, they put in the fighting between soderbergh and the screenwriter. It's the one of the most engaging commentaries i've heard because of these things. I think it's a preety sweet effect.

I loved the commentary too. It was one of the best I've ever heard on DVD.

I thought the echo and reverb stuff on the DVD commentary during Peter Fonda's introduction in the film was an inspired touch; it perfectly nailed the offbeat experimental vibe of the movie. Plus the commentary overall was quitely lively and informative, with a lot of enjoyable bantering between director Steven Soderbergh and screenwriter Lem Dobbs.

"We're all part Shatner/And part James Dean/Part Warren Oates/And Steven McQueen"

I was only half listening at that point, so I assumed that the disc I had gotten from Netflix was scratched or flawed. Good to know that the effect was intentional!
