Is Terry Valentine Terry Southern?

I just noticed that Terry Southern was an (uncredited) writer for the great 1965 Terence Stamp movie "The Collector". Could he be the model for Terry Valentine? I don't know enough about the person, but the coincidence is striking ..

reply

No, but he is significant. Terry Southern was a screenwriter in the 60's who helped write many of the classic movies of the period, most notably "Easy Rider" starring, guess who? Peter Fonda. Terry Valentine was a record producer, and it's pretty obvious that he's based on Phil Spector, the legendary 60's record producer who was also paranoid, weak, insecure and constantly surrounded himself with bodyguards and hitmen.

Terry Melcher. They even play a Byrds song while he's driving in one of the scenes, and he also had bodyguards.

I almost forgot. When I stumbled, I attached a magnetic capsule to your plane.

You're probably right, although he had a good reason for bodyguards: He was ex-friends with a fellow named Charlie.
