Surprisingly good

I watched this expecting a loud and stupid film with a lot of action scenes and over-the-top performances, but I was pleasantly wrong for a change. Instead it's quite an interesting, subtle and thought-provoking film - one which is quite difficult to describe and which stays in the memory long after watching. Not a brilliant film though, but still quite good. I can understand why maninstream audiences didn't like it much.

However, I find most people who hate this film were in fact expecting a big, loud stupid action film which explains why they were disappointed. I also see a lot of comments like "Nothing happening so I switched off after 10 minutes. Bad film." For f-ck sake, the film is only an hour and twenty minutes long or something. If you're that impatient you probably shouldn't be watching anything other than cartoons.

Anyway, seven out of ten seems like a fair IMDb score for once, so I'd give it the same. Certainly a film worth watching but one which attracts a very divided opinion. Watch with an open mind and you might just enjoy it. Anyone else out there who thought it was a good if not brilliant film? Or anyone who doesn't like the film but has a thought-out reason why?

yes it did surprise.

i love it when i am surprised. i don't mind being wrong if it means i can add a good film to my list. i notice many people can't budge on their opinion even wgen they are shown that they are wrong. to me that says that what they value is their own inflated sense of solidarity, above the truth.

there are lots of reasons this film wins. the lighting, cam work, the 'mood' of the story. i love revenge themes
