Scene with the DEA agent

Could somebody explain the point of the scene with the DEA agent (Bill Duke) and the burning heroin? I understand he gave Wilson information about Valentine's hideout, but what was the significance of the burning drugs?

Also, why did other DEA agents follow Stacy? Was he the subject of some sort of investigation?

Thanks in advance!

If you re-watch that scene, you'll notice that as they are showing the heroin being burned, the agent talks about the concept of doing his job well or doing it by the book.

There's a sort of implied reference there that most of the time, they get the drugs and bust the bad guys all "off record." This could also imply he's on the take, as it were, but in this instance, all we know for sure is that he's burning the drugs to avoid reporting them as having been seized.

Hope that helps!

Right... the point seems to be that the narcs are, more or less, honest about getting their job done, unlike the main character's assumption that they're crooked. Bill Duke and his men don't go by the book, but they want the job done. That's also why "Wilson" is given the location where "Valentine" is, so that Wilson can take care of what the narcs can't, even if it means that Valentine dies. The point is very elegantly made, and almost too subtle.

It does make sense, thank you.

That would also explain, in part, why they let Stacy and Uncle John go after stopping the hit and saving Wilson.

Stacy - "We got a job"
Uncle John - "What kind?"
Stacy - "The Forever Kind..."

Basically giving Wilson free reign to go do in Valentine. It keeps the DEA's hands clean and lets him do what he needs to. Win-Win.
