Yeah I watched "Shiner" in the summer and really enjoyed it. Just finished the "Limey" and enjoyed it though at some times the musical touches were a bit weak, but overall a good movie. If you liked either or both of these movies then I recommend you watch "Love, Honour, and Obey" starring Jude Law and Johnny Lee Miller.

You should check out "Point Blank" with Lee Marvin and John Vernon. Similar plot ( Lee's afer his money though, not his daughter ). Great washed out looking L.A.

reply

Along with "Point Blank" what "The Limey" really reminded me of was "Petulia" by Richard Lester from the late 60's; especially from the editing and technical standpoint.

reply

Musical touches a bit weak? Using "King Midas in Reverse" by the Hollies as Fonda's leitmotif? That was genius, as was "The Seeker" as title theme...

reply

yeah, I agree with Point Blank.
the flash backs and the slow motion was added to give the dream-like touch.
I really enjoyed The Limey.
I noticed Michael Caine was one of the original choices, and if you get a chance, check out Get Carter, also.

another film called Croupier, is pretty good also.

Peter Fonda sort of plays an archetype of the 60s acting vein as does Barry Newman.

I liked how Stacy's character played on "the acting" angle.

Seeing as 'Point Blank' has been mentioned here - I thought I'd add the more recent take on it, 'Payback' - don't let the fact that Mel Gibson is in it dissuade you

reply

'croupier' is another one! solid movie. yes, i agree.

We're not soldiers and he's not the enemy. He's a pizza man.

The Limey was actually inspired by Point Blank.

You mean Norf Lundun, geezah? :D

I lived in Camden for several months. That was enough!
I honestly didn't think many people cared any more...

Michael Caine's been mentioned a lot, but nobody's mentioned Harry Brown.

And how about another great Terence Stamp gangster drama, The Hit?

How can this not remind you of the original Get Carter?

English gangster comes to a different town to investigate the death of a non-criminal family member, he thinks has been murdered by another criminal.
