What does the character of Nobody do in this film?

I just watched an earlier movie by this filmaker called Dead Man where Nobody is in it. What does he do in this film?

It's ok you can spoil me I'm not real interested in the plot for this film.

Thanx.

He’s an Indian dude and kind of a loner like Ghost Dog who, like Ghost Dog, live on a roof top and is cool with birds, like Ghost Dog. And he mouths off to a couple of mob dudes with shot guns and doesn’t get shot. Calls them “stupid *beep* white man” after they shot one of his birds. That’s all.

Hmmmmthanx. That makes sense then. Maybe I'll check out this film after all. Thanx.

It's really really great. Up there with Dead Man.

"What is your mother's maiden name?" What's her first name? I just knew her as Ma!

As if Jarmusch wondered, while shooting the film, what Nobody would have thought of these characters, so he gave him a chance to express his opinion, and to repeat his "catch phrase".

I felt something similar with The Big Lebowski, where the Coens might have been thinking what a Western film hero would think about the Dude, and so came up with a character whose only role is to express just that.
