WOW! What a beautiful and amusing film this was!
This one and "Permanent Vacation" were the only Jarmusch films I hadn't seen, and I have no idea why I had the DVD of "Ghost Dog" for such a long time in my pile of unseen stuff - "Broken Flowers" had cooled down my love for Jarmusch a bit, that was probably the reason for my subdued expectations, but I realize that I couldn't have been more wrong.
This film is sheer beauty and full of the most amusing ideas and details, has a great soundtrack, wonderful cinematography, and Forest Whitaker was the perfect Ghost Dog. It kept me fascinated every minute, and I still don't know where to start praising it, having finished watching it only half an hour ago and still grinning.
Also very interesting to see the development in Robby Müller's camerawork which has always been extraordinary, but he's obviously still capable of getting better - amazing.
I couldn't name any other film that resembles this one when it comes to atmosphere, characters and story (except Jarmusch's own earlier films, though they do pale a bit in comparison) and tend to think at present that this is Jarmusch's best.
