style of the film

i have seen this film i watched it Quite a long time ago and although i liked it i can't really remeber it very well. From what i remeber though the film was rather deep and dramatic and had very few comic elements if any though according to imdb this film is an action comedy i didnt see this film as a comedy at all though there may have been some slightly satirical moments i.e the scenes where text appears on the screen of some "wise saumari words" and the fact cartoons that are watched throughout the film that are linked in ways to the plot. Does anyone see this film to be comedy if so how?

I took the eldest mobster's death by heart attack after simply seeing Ghost Dog, Dog's "retainer" getting shot in the same spot twice (partially by his own request), the mobsters arguing about whether or not to kill the Native American atop the roof, and the character of the Haitian ice cream man in general (at least throughout most of the film) to be largely comedic. Your opinion?

“I remain firm in declaring that David Cronenberg must direct Breaking Dawn."

reply

yes especially at the heartattack i was actually laughing out loud at this.

Maybe I was in a weird mood, but the scene where Louis first talks to the three other mobsters about Ghost Dog was one of the funniest things I've seen in ages.

My thumbs have gone weird.

I found the film pretty hilarious, but in a dark, twisted, sometimes tongue-in-cheek way. The mobster dialogue is funny and ridiculous ("Indians, n*****s, same thing"), Louie getting shot in the same place twice, Ghost Dog and the Haitian guy always understanding each other despite not speaking a common language and plenty of little throwaway lines like the Haitian saying that ice cream is "just like food."

I think Henry Da Silva's completely static expression alone was enough to crack me up, especially when he started talking about Indians with animal names and then started mooing at the end.

I completely agree, I was laughing out loud.

You know what the Queen said? If I had balls, I'd be King.

It has elements of dark comedy within a serious film. If your understanding of comedy is Adam Sandler (I don't mean the OP in particular ,I mean anyone) you won't find those scenes funny.

-The mobsters' surprised reactions at a hitman calling himself Ghost Dog, and then Sonny saying "Get Sammy the Snake in here"

-Sonny trying to act tough, but then getting scared by a pigeon, saying "get that flying rat away! I don't want it anywhere near me"

-In the same scene, Sonny taking off his pimp sunglasses and putting on his reading glasses to read the small print of the message

-Again the same scene, the whole mob (bosses, hitmen and all) being told off by the landlord for not paying the rent

and there are many more.

Never be complete.

The mobsters reciting PE always got me. Especially when he's in the bathroom, hilarious!
