RZA appearance...

I thaught this movie was good - there was a scene which seemed a bit random to me though: When Ghost Dog is walking down the street near the end of the film and Rza approaches and they have a brief exchange.
To me it sort of felt like it was just an excuse to have him in the film looking super cool.

I'm guessing there's more to it because the rest of the film is so well thaught out it wouldn't really make sense to have a pointless scene thrown in. If anyone has any ideas i'd really like to be able to see it in a new light.

Originally I had thought this was a sort of "passing of the torch moment". Rza was a more modern version of Ghost Dog (the cross on his neck vs. Ghost Dog's ancient asian symbol) At this point, Ghost Dog knows he is walking to his own death, and the ancient ways are going to pass with him. I feel RZA's acting is not on par with his music however. The scene did feel kind of tacked on.

The point is that this is a meeting of the minds. The two recognize each others warrior spirit. If their respective bosses were to order it they would probably kill each other without blinking an eye yet each of the two respectively has the highest possible regard for the other because their lives and values are so similar. With that in mind what more can be done? A quick nod of respect and their ways part again. I think such a sentiment is called giri in Japanese.

I like this explanation better than the "passing the torch" one.
