FW acting is great. Everything else is pointless or riddled with plot holes.. Even the dialogue. I almost stopped watching when they explained that the daughter went to the 'sea shore'. Noone in the East coast says, 'sea shore'. Its just the 'shore'.
Its like a bad student film. Nothing makes sense. The plot is stupid. The mob wanted Handsome dead and then they were upset when he was killed, so they put a contract hit on the killer? Really?
What was the point of stealing the clothes from the couple? POINTLESS.
Stupid Mafia stereotypes with the same tired dialogue.
The timid, disassociated teary-eyed daughter now runs the show? Really? Books and cartoon watching to head of a Mafia family overnight. No plot hole there!
I rarely write a bad review. I see 300 movies a year and try to find something good in all of them - but this one was a struggle to find something good beyond FW acting (which i think is always good)...
Yeah, Jarmusch's formula is good in something like Dead Man, but here it was absolute garbage. The people who love it must be new to this sort of film making because it's extremely weak compared to several of his other films.
I'd rather watch the original Django than some Jamie Fox garbage.
"The mob wanted Handsome dead and then they were upset when he was killed, so they put a contract hit on the killer?"
they wanted Ghost Dog dead because they didn't want him to murder the guy with the girl present. if the girl wasn't there, it wouldn't have been a problem. if you actually paid attention you'd have picked up on that.
don't try nitpicking little things when you have no idea what you're talking about.
==================================================================== Nothing makes sense. ====================================================================
Actually, if you pay attention, it makes a lot of sense. It's a film that's open to interpretation, that asks the viewer to think, imagine, contemplate. So it not only makes sense, depending on how you view it, it makes more than one sense.

Actually I thought this movie had a very unique and funny approach to its mob family. Some of the dialogue is recycled from other movies, but the depiction of the mob is very different, so the "same old tired" dialogue sounds very, very different on them.

She did become the head of the family overnight, but she knew that day would come. She knew her father's business and she'd probably replace him some day. About cartoons, you must have missed that everybody was watching them.

He needed an expensive suit to get into Mr. Vargo's mansion as a businessman, so he found a man of his size with an expensive suit. Much easier than waiting for the stores to open and shopping. He also took the woman's clothes, she was probably a prostitute. Being naked and with a streetwalker with him, the man probably wouldn't go to the police right away, which would save Ghost Dog some time. But such details might escape when your mind is busy trying to keep up with your yearly number of films, instead of trying to focus on what's playing in front of you.
Thanks for saving me having to explain this. All of these things were so obvious and half the time explain through the quotes of the samurai code. Just wow, no disrespect to the OP but did you even pay attention watching this?
