Ghost Dog VS. Leon
Who is the better assassin, for me its Ghost Dog since he didn't get killed by any of his enemy's.

shareLeon killed more in the final scene and also they were heavily armed and trained police. Ghost Dog killed old men. However I call it a tie.

good point by both (leon killed more, but GD died from his own free will)
Although i prefer GD as a film i think Leon takes this, as he (from what we the viewer saw) had more game time, and im sure experience counts for a hell of a lot for assasins!
Leon may not have given his life completely freely, but he did give it consciously. Such a great ending. Leon (or The Professional, as I knew it at the time) was my favorite film for a while after it came out, and that may cloud my objectivity (though I enjoyed Ghost Dog quite a bit) but I think Leon wins. Of course, no women, no children. Forget about all the cops he takes out at the end, he ravages the body guards at the beginning without using a gun if I'm remembering it correctly. As he says, the rifle is the first weapon to learn, the better you get, the closer you can get to the target.
Childish?!? There`s no point in being grown up if you can`t be childish sometimes.
well that's kind of missing the point. neither character is defined by committing acts of violence, and they're not meant to be commando killing machines. i look at it kind of like sanjuro, where mifune's title character defeats the villain murato in a duel. afterward he says they were the exact same, both well-crafted swords, only murato was the naked blade, the one who wouldn't stay sheathed. both leon and ghost dog are more defined by the times they keep their swords sheathed, so to speak.
in other words who's the better killer is trivial and a moot point.
No one said anything about killing machines. We are talking about effectiveness, that is quality, not quantity.

For me it's Leon since he killed people who were trained to take him out and they wern't a bunch of old men who sat around watching cartoons. But it's hard to compare because The Professiolal was such a well made movie. Ghost Dog could of probably got hit by a train and survived. The way he swings his guns around like swords in public and the amount of cars he steals while the owner has their back turned would have the cops all over him in no time.
I guess what i'm saying is Ghost Dog wouldn't last 10 minutes in the movie The Professional.

True, remember Leon was a just a tool and childlike individual used by others and taken advantage of. Sort of a sublime enforcer, that's all.
In contrast Ghost Dog was very very independent and only because he followed the code of the samurai was he vulnerable.
Leon was younger and had better combat skills but GD was a more of a thinker and artist. The only time he storms in like Leon results in him basically killing practically all his enemies, with no injury. Also to keep in mind GD uses dual supressed .22's and shoots people in the heart. That takes some mad pistol skills.
Yeah I agree...
I think GD walks away the winner by only a very marginal degree. Though I imagine setting, setup and environment would play a much bigger part in really comparing the two.
It's almost like comparing Jason Bourne to the new James Bond.
I often watch one right before or right after the other when partaking in a movie watching marathon. Good question. It's hard to say who'd win. It would be like on the Wire when Omar and Brother Mouzone met face to face. The amount of badass would probably just bounce off each other. They'd both just implode or explode if they ever met.
shareI like both, but i choose Ghost Dog...
Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.
