Didn't like the movie!
Anyone who doesn't like the movie..It's too slow + awful music.

And Ms Cassidy was so beautiful and pure !!!
I remember watching this movie when I was 13 or so. I remember not liking it, still, some scenes are still stuck in my head. I always get a certain uncomfortable feeling when I think of this movie.

I remember how I hated him when they were at the pub(?) and her boyfriend was there but he didn't say anything and she didn't notice :(

I find it ironic that you didn't like the film you saw so long ago but you still think about it. To me that's the sign of a good film.

I didn't like it but for a different reason. I do think Egoyan's overrated. He's a poor man's Lynch with a dash of Persian style.

I must admit it never occurred to me to associate Persian style with this Armenian/Egyptian/Canadian director.
shareI just saw the movie for the first time yesterday and I would have to disagree with most opinions here so far. Granted, it is not a totally accessible film, being slow paced, somber and totally character-driven for the most part with some questions left at the end. But for me, all of those characteristics made the film different in a good way, as it was certainly not quite like anything I have ever seen before. And quite frankly, for me, if only for the amazing performances of Hoskins and Elaine Cassidy, this movie is quite memorable. I was expecting a slow paced psychological thriller with good performances and that's exactly what I got and then some. For me, the exploration of a character like Hilditch is anything but boring, especially when he is being played marvelously by a Bob Hoskins on top form. I can not really comment on the opinion that Egoyan is over-rated, but after seeing Where The Truth Lies and now this film, I have to say I am quite satisfied with his skills so far. I am actually looking forward to see Exotica and The Sweet Hereafter now, as I read that they are considered among his best films.
