Saddest scene

For me, the movie's saddest scene was when Otis comes home from a tour to see his mother Haz, who's dying of cancer. Where was Otis's father Edgar in that scene? Haz mentions him when she says: "Me & Edgar are gonna see you when y'all play Vegas". In fact the last scene in which we see Edgar was when he & Haz are lavishly showered with gifts courtesy of their son's newfound success. There was no mention of what happened to Edgar after the above scene, except for that further brief mention of him in that tearful scene with Otis & Haz. Haz must've died around 1979 or 1980 according to the movie's storyline. What a sad scene.

Otis' mother actually died in 1970 while the Tempts were at the Copa. A mourning Otis blew a note onstage that night, leading to a death look from Eddie, and a missed confrontation that angered Eddie to the point that he walked out and skipped the rest of the Copa dates. This is the issue that caused Eddie to be put out of the group.
