Paul Williams at the Family Grammy Party

Melvin on the piano while Paul was singing "Someone who needs me" -- I [italic]think[/italic] that was the title of the song.

Obviously Paul was drunk, and everyone is standing around staring at him strangely. But why didn't any of his bandmates or Mama Rose or Mama Haze, SOMEBODY, try to stop him? Especially after watching his wife unsuccessful after many failed tries.

Did they really need to see his 'grand finale'? Paul falling down over the piano?

I did like how Melvin stopped Paul from manhandling his wife. For a second I thought they would all just continue to stand around and watch Paul mistreat his wife.

When life gives you lemons, make apple juice and let the world figure out how you did it!

i think what happened was that they can stop him from hitting his wife. but that they couldn't stop him from drinking. in short you can watch someone make a fool of them self. in front of a group of people and you can try to stop them, but that doesn't mean they can suceed in stopping him. i think they were also embarrassed as hell. and it an unspoken who his going to stop him? and nobody wanted cause who knows how he would have reacted to them as well?

just a hunch.

The name of the song is "For Once in My Life". You can see the real Paul Williams sing it here: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6dkpl_the-temptations-for-once-in-my-life_music

As for why didn't anyone try to stop Paul from drinking: in real life, _everyone_ tried to stop Paul from drinking. Each Temptation pulled him aside on several occasions and gave him their variant of the "you need to get yourself together speech", and whenever they could, they would find Paul's liquor stashes and drain the bottles.
