D.B. Woodside

Seems like a talented & humble individual. His performance in this film is so understated & compassionate. This is one of the best films ever. I watch it every chance I get.

I was just watching it again tonight on vh1. That is a really good description of the way he played Melvin. I totally agree.

reply

I love this movie too. Watch this movie and see the talented actors then seems like you hardly see them in anything else

reply

He was good - but did anyone else notice that he looks more like the real Otis Williams and not at all like the real Melvin Franklin?

reply

My wife and I think Mr. Woodside is incredibly talented. There is a part of me that believes that Melvin Franklin really is in the movie simply because Mr. Woodside is playing the part.

reply

We all seem to be in agreement on Mr. Woodside's performance. Yes, this was an excellent movie. Still makes me feel sad to know I was there, and now 46 years have passed us by.

Funny thought I found this thread because I only came on here to see if that was DB Woodside who played Melvin, I've seen this movie so many times but I even thought about it being DB Woodside, idk I always just saw him as Melvin, this role is so different than the other roles i've seen him in (Buffy, Hellcats, and Single Ladies)He always plays the big mucho guy, which he plays quite convincingly, but it's nice to see his softer side. Truly a talented guy

You should watch his episodes of Hawthorne.

^^^ I will definitely do that! i've beenwanting to get into that show for a while now

For me, the series started out really well, but I think it lost it's way towards the end. However, I think it's still worth a look.

Everyone was great, but D.B. was the best actor in the miniseries. He is also great in Buffy, The Practice, and he was on a season of Parenthood as Jabbars' doctor.

reply

Yeah, I feel that this is the only role I know of that really give's him the opportunity to show his acting chops. In all,, I think everyone did a good chop. However, I don't think the actor who played Eddie Kendrick's really stood out to me the way the rest did. I saw Eddie's UNsung episode, and like the other's, he had his demon's...so I'm wondering why the film did not touch base with that. That would have def. Gave the actor more to work with.

reply

I agree. Eddie's story wasn't really told like the others. So, through the movie, we don't really know him.

"Do you even remember what you came here to find?"

reply

I saw the "Unsung" episodes on TV One for both Eddie Kendrick and David Ruffin. Both were excellent.

reply

I just watched this on YouTube and love his portrayal. He is truly a talented actor in everything I've seen with him. I will definitely watch this again soon!
