they should make an actual movie

i think they should make an actual movie that would be played in the movie theaters and if they do who do you think they should cast

reply

I sorta see someone like Ne-Yo playing Paul..still trying to figure out who could play the others..

"AIN'T NOBODY COMIN TO SEE YOU OTIS!!"--David Ruffin, The Temptations(best tv movie EVER)

reply

I totally agree. Interest in the legendary Temptations is still huge. However, I would actually prefer a documentary. It would be nice to see archival footage, out-takes, home movies and actual interviews with friends, family members, fans and people who were there and really knew the group.

I've been thinking about this, and I think a lot of posters will agree with me on what I'm about to say: NO ONE will be able to pull off David Ruffin like Leon did. But it'd be nice to see other people's picks anyways.

Rickey Smiley the comedian looks just like David Ruffin in his older days ( On the dancin' in the street concert/video )

I don't think a theater movie could depict the Temptations as well as the TV movie did. In my opinion it's one of the best music documentary movies I've seen.

reply

It was so well done, I thought 'The Temptations' DID play in theaters. Maybe I saw it on DVD. Great movie, but sad. I just read that an iteration of the real Temptations played as late as 2004, but of course with much different line-up.

Will Smith as David Ruffin? Please don't make me laugh! I have to agree with the other poster that you couldn't have asked for a better actor to portray Ruff than Leon. He had it all: the look, mannerisms and dramatic talent.

I also agree with "sjo5351" that instead of doing theatrical movie, a documentary film would be a better idea. Being that so many lawsuits were filed by relatives of the Tempts after the release of the made-for-TV movie--for defamation of character, distress, etc.--an epic Hollywood production would probably have disastrous consequences anyway.

I agree with Sparky! Leon had that character down! I think he was nominated for an Emmy for best actor in a mini-series. Not sure if he won; if not he was ripped off big time. The quality of this mini-series could not be matched, in my opinion. I don't think even big Hollywood stars could match the job that the actors did on this.

Ne-Yo as Paul? Ehhh, his voice is waaaaay too light to pull it off......

1991 was a good year....

If they do they should perform RUnaway Child Runnin' Wild because I love that song and you never hear it.

why a 2 hour movie..when the 6 hour min i series was perfect?...is because yall wanna him some cursing? i just dont get it

reply

The production value would go up, and any the miniseries was good ENTERTAINMENT but wasnt all that accurate, but they could make a more accurate and even more entertaining movie.

"Why do you live?" "Because i have something worth living for"

reply

I like the idea of a documentary, but there was a whole lot to love (and to be sad) about the TV movie. At least we had a general idea of what was going on. No one could make up a story like what their real lives were like.

reply

How could they possibly make a feature picture more accurate when it'd be shorter (and much of the reasons for fictionalization of the events its to shorten the story and make it flow better)?

In fact, the entire reason Suzanne de Passe convinced Otis to let her make a miniseries _instead_ of a feature (whic his what Otis wanted) was because it would be cheaper, longer, and able to reach a wider audience faster.

reply

The problem is that movie studios prefer films that are two hours or shorter. And the story of The Temptations can not be properly told in two hours.
