When Eddie Kendricks says to Otis Williams...

...in the scene where they vote by committee on whether or not to keep David Ruffin in the group, when Otis places his vote to have David fired from The Tempts, Eddie says: "You're flyin' on the big hate", or something like that. I've never heard that expression before. So uniquely put! If you've seen this movie, you knew what happened afterward. Does anyone know what Eddie's expression means? My inquiring mind NEEDS to know!

Larry Appleton: "I have..."
Balki Bartokomous: "Oh, God!"
Larry Appleton: "...a plan!"

I always thought he said "You're flying on a big hate." I just took it to mean that Eddie thought that Otis was allowing his emotions to get the better of him. He thought that Otis's anger at David was clouding his judgement as far as what was good for the group.

That's what I took it to mean.

Me, I just took it as Eddie covering for David and trying to deflect it back to Otis.
