The guy who plays Melvin looks like Otis and vice versa, huh?

Why is it that the producers of this movie miscast the two roles? The guy who plays Melvin looks more like the real Otis and the guy who Otis looks more like the real Melvin, huh? That threw me when I was watching the movie tonight. I was confused about who was who and had to reconfigure the story line.

Yeah, that was pretty weird. Not sure how that happened.

With the exception of the actor that played otis I think they cast actors that could really sing. D.B. Leon, and the actor that played Eddie really can sing. And I think D.B really is a tenor like melvin

Yea when I first saw the movie, and then saw pictures of the real Temptations, I was confused. For the longest I thought that the real Otis was light skinned, and Melvin was dark. However, it was the other way around.

reply

I totally agree. When I first saw this, I was like the actor playing Otis looks like Melvin!! I was confused!

reply

huh ?? there was no light skin temptation . the two lightest were prob eddie and paul. melvin was darker skin.

It's all about the singing voice. D.B. Woodside sang like Melvin and Charles Malik Whitfield, well, wasn't very distinguishable. Leon looked a lot like David, Terron Brooks looked only partially like Eddie and Christian Payton only looked marginally like Paul. They were all able to carry the music though which was enough for me to overlook their physically appearances to their IRL counterparts.

it doesnt matter who they looked like. it was who could portray which character best. If it would just about look alike they could easily cast that. denzel didnt look much like malcolm x either.

It took me a while to get used to people referring to Melvin as "Blue". I had forgot that was his nickname. Did they mention that Rick James was his nephew?

reply

I thought the actors who played Paul and Eddie had a slight resemblance. After a couple scenes I figured out Eddie had a longer face.

Did anyone see the movie "Jersey Boys"? Erich Bergen played Bob Gaudio and Michael Lomenda was Nick Massi. There were at least two scenes where I could barely tell them apart.

Terron Brooks had a resemblance to Eddie Kendricks. But after seeing some old Temptations appearance on an Ed Sullivan DVD I noticed that what Terron Brooks really had were Eddie's mannerisms. I think he really captured his stage persona, his smiling, his moves, etc.

reply

Yes!!! I came on here exactly to see if anyone else noticed this.
