There is no end.

We from Italy, think that the director wants us to get crazy to find an end.
Human mind is so sensible to all of these psychologic stories that, We, innocent movies' lovers have to find out an end.

However, i understood the movie in this way: i kept that Mr. Hearst is not guilty of the murder...he's only psychologically moved by sense of rage because of the decision of his wife to leave him. And that's for it that he, at the end, wants to confess.

But finding an end has not sense, because for me, the director wants to give us no end.

In Belgium, we think that the director lost the last pages of the script :).

I found the ending very disappointing as the movie kept me on the edge of my seat constantly trying to understand the "whodunit" as i was expecting a mind-blowing conspiracy (the sister-in-law, her husband, chantal herself). But nothing of that all made this movie such a bummer.

Although the plot was a complete disappointment, the cast did some terrible (in the good sense that is) acting!

So far for Belgium.

Terrible in a good way? Don't you mean terrific or something like that?

We from England say "terrible" in a bad way but when we say "wicked" that can mean a good way. The 'French Connection' was wicked but 'Under Suspicion' was terrible.

you can say terribly good !

and I say it's a terribly good film, not at all disappointing.

I'd like to think that most of my highly tuned brain cells are still working. I enjoy all sorts of movies including the genre where 'under suspicion' sits. However the reason I registered on this site was to try try to unravel the end of the movie?

Even if any of the earlier posters have properly interpreted the ending it was very poorly constructed. The tension, the drama, the who-really-dunnit, and then an officer walks in with some evidence and says "its okay we got the guy" - cue final scene and credits!!!!

No wonder a good story with two great actors never made it as a great movie.

Which interpretation do you think makes the ending poorly constructed ? There are several points of view here, although there does seem to be a concensus. Which one do you buy into ?
