Another lame overuse of cigarettes as props

Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio's ever present cigarette accomplishes nothing. I get she is a lounge singer that has endured some hard knocks. She obviously is not a smoker (if she is she never learned to do it properly) so it only ends up being a distraction. I only bring this up because this has become a common occurrence in film-making these days. I have no problem with a character smoking if it fits the character and the type, but it doesn't work here.

Well, 3+ years later and I guess you can see how many members agree with you. I fail to see the point of it.

I do agree with Kroyall1962. I know that there will be those who joyfully proclaim "political correctness" or "nanny state" when one wants to comment about the incongruous cigarette appearances in movies, but sadly the casting of cigarettes is a bit too common and trite.

You and the op should get together. You have something in common. You each have some[one] who agrees with you.

Exactly @srklondie. In fact supporting cigarettes as props is very politically correct that's for sure.

Hey, congratulations. It took a while, but you finally have some[one] who agrees with you. You should get together.

I can't believe I missed such a great opportunity for a scintillating discussion about film.

Such brilliant insights! So thought-provoking!

It kind of bothered me too. There was no reason for it. But then I'm always annoyed by smoking in a movie.
