I can't imagine another actor playing this role. The key thing is he LOOKS like someone who has lived this life. He comes across as a regular, normal person and there's nothing "Hollywood" about him. Wish there were more people talking about Limbo. Good film.

Yes, Strathairn was quietly superb and so natural in his role. I also think Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio was outstanding in the best role of her career.
shareEveryone in this film is perfect. Everyone! The reason for that is Sayles. He puts everything together perfectly. Getting back to Strathairn, I've been a big, big fan of his for over 20 years. When I was with the P.O. I delivered his parents mail several times. Nice people.
