Ok, so did Billy know the Kirbs...
were trying to get Grant on the Island before the dinner at the bar?

But when Kirby came to meet Grant at the dig, I noticed that Billy had a weird look on his face and said something that basically guaranteed Grant would have dinner with Kirby... I never noticed that before

shareI think Billy just wanted the money to finance their dig, so he wanted to hear the Kirby's out. I don't think he knew their intentions at all.

Mr Kirby must have talked to Billy while Grant was away so Billy knew he was rich and that whatever their proposition was, it was worth going to dinner.
shareIt seems that he did, or at least they had already spoken to him before they approached Alan. Apart from anything else, Kirby greets Billy by name before Alan introduces them.
It seems like Kirby has already set things up with Billy to make sure Alan will listen to their proposal, and that's why Billy jumps in and accepts the dinner invitation (including himself in the deal) when it seems like Alan is about to say no.
You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.
