How did he win the Oscar for Philadelphia?

He was good in Philadelphia, but that won solely on the theme. This WAS a better performance, but the movie wasn't Oscar-worthy.

Saving Private Ryan...

Any thoughts on that one?

His character was great and he did him justice, but that was an epic movie and a great ensemble cast, so he doesn't pop out.

It's notably, Spielberg's last great movie.
