You're Welcome Buffy vs Cordy

Which version of You're Welcome would you be happier with? Would you have preferred for Buffy to appear or did you prefer Cordelia? While it would've been great to see Buffy again, I'm personally glad Cordelia came back after what happened in S4.

reply

I have to say Cordelia. As much as I would have loved to have seen Buffy appear in an episode of Angel Season 5 after the events of Season 4 with Cordelia her character needed some kind of closure since they chose not to bring her back as a series regular in the following season.

I would have loved to have seen Doyle one last time too but I think the actor had passed away by then.

Loved to have seen Buffy again (or Dawn in TGIQ) but no, this is CC's ep and a magnificent farewell for her.

I wonder if the script for Buffy version of You're Welcome is floating around somewhere.

I think if there is it would be completely different than the episode we ended up getting with Cordelia 'cause I don't think Buffy would have fitted in the way Cordelia did and the episode feels like it was meant to have Cordelia in it. I think Cordelia needed a happy ending too and we already saw Buffy get one at the end of Season 7.

A lot of fans were angry over Cordelia getting written out of the show.

I wished Cordelia awaken in Your Welcome and returned as a regular through to the end of season 5. I would of been cool with her gone for the first half, then back in the second half.

reply

It would've made sense considering Fred would be dead three episodes after You're Welcome.

reply

That is what I would have liked to have seen too and it definitely would have made sense after Fred was killed off as the OP stated but for some unknown reason Joss chose to kill her off and not bring her back. Some people say it was 'cause he was angry with Charisma getting pregnant during Season 4 'cause he had bigger plans for her character but I am not sure what to believe 'cause I haven't seen Charisma say that.

Cordelia. I know they wrote it originally for Buffy but it should have always been Cordy.

She knew Angel better at that point in his life. They fought side by side for years and shared a lot of things that Buffy wouldn't know the first thing about. With Buffy around, it runs the risk of becoming too much about Angel's relationship with her and less about his (and his team's) personal mission. The very same mission he was losing sight of.

With Cordelia, they were able to properly reflect on everything that had led them to that moment. It just made more sense from a narrative perspective to have the person who had been with Angel from day 1 of Angel Investigations. Cordelia knew how to set Angel back on his path.

Plus, not to mention, Cordelia needed the closure more than Buffy needed a one-off cameo.

Would it have still been a good episode and appearance for Buffy? Probably. Would it have been better than what we got? Can't say but what we got is close to a perfect episode for me.

Wesley, why can't I stay?

reply

Cordy. As much as I would've loved to have actually seen Buffy crossover, this was not her show. Cordelia deserved the send off. Buffy got hers.

You are sin.

reply

But I would've preferred to see Dawn in The Girl in Question instead of Andrew.

reply

And Willow and or Giles in Damage instead of Andrew.

reply

Giles was originally going to be in the episode where Fred dies.

reply

Cordelia all day long.

reply

The fans needed a proper closure with Cordelia so she had to come back.

That being said, I would have loved to see Buffy make a final apearance so I wouldnt have a problem with Buffy showing up instead of Cordelia.

reply

The responses to this are great. I thought for sure someone would have said Buffy, just out of fanboyism, but having just watching this, it had to be Cordeila, and Charisma's performance in this was so powerful and resonated so much with the show's history. I'm grateful for the version we got.

reply

Me too. I wonder if they actually wrote a script for You're Welcome with Buffy in it rather than Cordy.

reply

Cordy all day long.

Glad it was Cordelia. I was disappointed these two never got a chance to properly explore their feelings for each other, and this felt like a nice farewell to her.

reply

It was good just too say bye. Otherwise her last episode would've been peace out
