Does it hold up?

I haven't seen this since it came out. I was in 8th grade and it scared me senseless. I spent the night at a friend's and we caught it on TV. He immediately went to sleep and I read every single magazine in the house until the sun came up. Lol. I'm planning on watching it soon, but I was wondering if time has been kind to it, in your opinion.

reply

I think time has been kind to it because I've watched it probably 5 times by now. It scares the crap out of me every time. This is one of my favorite scary movies of all time. I just learned Clark Gregg (Agent Phil Coulson of the Marvel movies and tv series) co-wrote it. Hope he writes another scary one :)

Just saw it again recently and I think it does hold up. I have to give it more credit than when I first saw it.

Same here. I think it actually is better after all these years. Or perhaps the films being released nowadays are so crappy that this one shines by comparison.

Agree. I wish there were more movies like this. (good ones)

it's one of my all time favorite movies, i watch it a couple times a year. it definitely still holds up.

Why are you screaming? I haven't even cut you yet.

It holds up. Cannot believe it is 15 years old. Still creepy and music is great.

I watched it tonight for the first time in a few years. It's still good, but could have done with a bit of an edit.

The last 30 minutes were very tense the first time I saw it, but now it drags a tad.

reply

I think it holds up very well. The only thing that jars you into remembering it's not set in the present is the clunky phone used in a couple of scenes. That and the older type computers.

I don't think so. First of all the Harrison Ford twist just does not work that well anymore. This was really a great move when I saw the movie the first time, as it made the ending totally unpredictable for me, especially in that time when Hollywood totally relied on its star-system and *everybody* was *always* typecast, to the degree that it came at a suprise if Bruce Willis did wear more than a bloodstained undershirt.

Also, and that might be just me, I think people paid more attention to the content. It is a slow movie which can work great when people have the patience to get into it, but compared to today's all-three-minutes-there-has-to-be-a-shock-effect horror it demands a lot and is impossible to watch on an iphone.

The whole ghost-theme has been used over and over again, so the freshness of the last scenes (which I think left it open to interpretation, whether it was supernatural) is gone.
