Film's Producer
I know that many on this board have criticized this movie for being pure propoganda, but I thought I'd give you some insight on its producer and lead writer. His name is Jim Webb and he is a veteran of Vietnam. He has written six novels on warfare and served in the 1980's as the Secretary of the Navy. I think this film's goal is not to put out a peice of propaganda, but to give a viewer at peek at the vast complexities and uncertainties facing the military. I would not take this movie to be an expression of his opinions, but a work of fiction he uses to engage the viewer.
He is not a warmongerer, as he has written several peices opposing the current war in Iraq. He is no opposed to the use of force per say, but he beleives that we should justify all actions in their human costs.
Interestingly enough he is running this year as a Democrat for the US Senate in Virginia. To learn more you can visit www.webbforsenate.com or www.jameswebb.com
