The Trigger

I don't get it.
The trigger was supposed to be when he got near the target. At first I thought that Hathaway might be the target, but then I realized he couldn't be or he would have blown up in the torture room thing.
I don't understand what, in the end, made him blow up. I read here that it was when he realized he was Olham, but that couldn't be it because his wife's robot saw her body as well and didn't blow up.

I don't get why he just said int he end "...If that's Olham,..." and blew up. It makes no sense to me. >_>

Then I don't understand how the mission of killing an individual person could be completed. The robots didn't know they were robots and therefore didn't know the trigger phrase. So then, even if they got close to their target, they have to say the phrase (which they don't know) to blow themselves up.

This part really makes no sense...

I just assumed that since the replicants were supposed to think that they were humans there was a built in self-destruct if they ever discovered this wasn't the case. They would be sympathic to humans since they think they are humans and if they weren't destroyed when they found out they were replicants then they might have turned themselves in to help humans better detect and destroy replicants.

His wife's replicant would not have realised that the body in the ship was actually her human equivalent because the whole reason they were going to the ship was to find his replicant double to prove that it had crash landed and been unable to carry out its mission. So they were already expecting to find a body, the surprise was that it was hers not his. Then they shot her so she never had time to realised she was actually the double. When they found Spencers body it was obvious the replicants had managed to carry out their mission and that he was the double because there was a knife and the body's throat was slit, so he self-destructed...

That's what I thought anyway *shrug*... I presumed their actual targets were the Chancellor and someone else or perhaps they were both for the Chancellor...

Lastly, if we go with the "It's something they have to say" to blow up, it could have just been something like "It's a pleasure to see you, Chancellor"

The reason why his wife didn't blow up, was because while they seen her body, she didn't . by the time she react, she was shot. They had enough time to react, and kill her before she blew up.
