The 'Elephant in the Room'. Timing is everything.

I have not read much Phillip K. Dick, so I do not know if his "What makes us human?" theme is isolated to this and "Blade Runner". However, the oppressive nature of a "National Security State" must have REALLY made the neocon fascists in the Bush Administration uncomfortable, especially since this was released three months after 9/11. If this is the case, it would certainly not be the first time that political considerations buried an otherwise worthy film. The Nixon administration convinced Jack Warner to butcher "1776" in its initial release. The restored "Director's Cut" plays TCM regularly, and it is a magnificent movie.

I thoroughly enjoyed "Impostor," even though I figured out the "surprise" ending as soon as Sinese was apprehended just after the first mention of the camping and the fire. It certainly seemed to be a "just" ending, as those "protecting" Earth had, instead, turned it into a totalitarian Darwinesque cesspool, uncomfortably close to the conditions we live in today. If we lose the best part of ourselves (our humanity) in order to survive, then we do not deserve to survive.
