Get rid of the interview part
It's not interesting most of the time and sometimes just looks really awkward. Get rid of the interviews and leave more time to clear the board. I hate it when clues are left on the board.

shareEvery other game show talks about what contestants do, "J!" shouldn't be any different.
Annoying the world since 1960!
The idea is that if you know something about the contestants, you can relate to them. It's supposed to improve the viewing experience. And it likely does, because it's the standard.
Many used to provide info through introductions, "She's a mother of two from Sherman Oaks who enjoys needlepointing and hang gliding, say hello to..." Now they mostly let the people speak for themselves.
I like the interviews. It lets me know a little more about the contestant and I feel like I can relate to them a little better.
shareAlso the game clock isn't running during the interview segment, so they don't eat into gameplay.

I think the OP is arguing that without the interviews the game clock itself could be longer. How long is the interview segment? It seems as if it's about a minute total. I guess it could make something of a difference.
Although I FF through the interviews most of the time, I've been watching them lately because of Cindy. I would expect Jeopardy will acknowledge her in some way when her run ends.
I like them, keep them, have fun

I always like it when a really interesting contestant is paired with a really dull contestant.
"Janet recently hiked to the to top of Mt Kilimanjaro and taught flute to local villagers in the African savannah; Bill recently tried the McRib sandwich for the first time."
"The end of the shoelace is called the...IT DOESN'T MATTER!"
Ok guys I give in. The people have spoken. We can keep the interviews.
The guy in the middle tonight actually had a interesting story about the bank robbery. Seems like Alex could care less about Cindy's nail polish collection though, unless it was just bad editing.
Alex just isn't very good at it. It's obvious when he's bored by what a contestant says. Awkward is his average and sometimes he's straight up rude.
Not really a Wheel fan, but Pat Sajak does this very well.
Pat would be an outstanding replacement for Alex and they could find someone else for WOF.
