Clive Owen

I'm studying Clive Owen in three films (Inside Man, Derailed and Croupier) as part of my film studies coursework.

I would be grateful if you could post your opinion on his performance in these film and if possible any knowledge you may have of his input (e.g: script writing, working with the director, researching aspects of the storyline, etc).

There are individual posts on each of the three films' pages on ImDb.

Hopefully you will be a big Clive Owen fan as I am, however all opinions are welcome and extremely useful.

Many thanks to all who reply, pleases state your name or screen name to be referenced to.

I've listened to the Directors Commentary on the Croupier DVD, and I don't think he particularly mentions any input from Owen.

Here’re a few things that I have heard over and over about him: he's a fantastic character actor, he's deep, he's been referred to as a very intelligent actor and also a strong and confident one, and he doesnt like too many lines and omits the ones that he think are unnecessary.

Your choices of movies are interesting b/c he's more praised for Closer, Gosford Park, and Children of Men among others. However I am sure you can find plenty of material on his acting in these three movies on the net. There’re tones of reviews and his performances almost always get praised (with a few exceptions).

As for Inside Man, one thing that stuck with me when I was listening to Spike Lee talk about the movie was that he said for the part of Dalton Russell, he wanted someone strong and confident who would be believable as having the upper hand against Denzel Washington who comes off very strong. Spike said that Clive immediately came to his mind and he just had to Convince Clive to take the job!

Anyway check out the net...material on Clive is at plenty

Good luck! And let us know how it went.

It's kinda ironic that he's playing an "inside man" in this - i think alex kingston's character even refers to him as this at one point!
