I few weeks ago I realized that cold Mountain and The English Patient were directed by the Same guy and both are romantic films set in war times. I'm also love Nicole Kidman as an actress.
So if loved the English patient ill love cold mountain equally?
Not necessarily because The English Patient has its couple played by Fiennes and Thomas together most of the time! Ada and Inman meet a couple of times and start to have feelings for each other and then the war takes him away from her and the trauma of the war and being separated from each other drive each to become more infatuated with the other! It's like they each can't deal with their traumas without believing that the other would make their lives better. It's totally different in its romantic content.
Kidman gives a great performance! Everyone in the movie is great and few oscars were more deserved than Zellwegers!
Finally saw it and I can say I loved in a different way. Ada and Einman showed pure and true love at first sight, there was nothing wrong of them getting together and that hope of seeing each other again was very healthy and kept them strong.
Meanwhile Katherine and Almasi at the beginning was just lust at the beginning of their affair Almasi said he didn't want attachments but with time their love gets stronger and deeper and their relationship was so unhealthy for both.
An advantage for Cold Mountain could be the peace it has the normal peace and length of a romantic flick
The advantage for The English Patient was the chemistry with Ralph and KST and I don't know why this happened coming from the same director but the love scenes in the English patient looked classier and with much better taste even tough that relationship was more lust and passion than love.
Sorry but the love scene in cold mountain looked a bitt tasteless and grotesque. Not sexy.
Englist Patient is one of my top 5 romance movies. Agree the chemistry between Fiennes and KST is amazing, the scene when the soldiers are singing Christmas songs! I've only seen Cold Mountain once. Minghella wrote/directed both and another great movie Talented Mr Ripley.
